  • A Cause to "Give Us Paws"

    Non-Profit Organization
    Houston, TX 77043

Give Us Paws is a Service-Connected, Disabled Veteran Founded, Texas, Federally recognized 501(c)(3), nonprofit corporation based in Houston that provides free, in-home training and certification of eligible candidates' existing dogs as service animals for disabled veterans, especially with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)/emotional disabilities. We also provide services to disabled adults and children eligible under the ADA, but veterans receive priority for funding and training. We concentrate on funding our training of service animals with handlers suffering from PTSD, diabetes and limited mobility issues in order to improve the quality of their lives. There are thousands of returning veterans suffering from PTSD having issues adjusting to normal life. Last year, the VA cut all funding for service animals of veterans with PTSD and there's a large gap that needs to be filled with extremely limited resources. To acquire a trained Service Dog can cost $20,000.00-$30,000.00; the waiting lists can be multi-years long, programs for training and funding for that training are scarce. We provide an in-home training program free of charge to our disabled veterans, if funds are available for training. Our program costs $3,000.00-$5,000.00 for civilians.

Our herd consists of 6 full sized horses, 3 mini horses, 1 steer, 2 pot bellied pigs and a handful of barn cats. Our mission is to help veterans, 1st responders, their families and caregivers. Life is hard for those that are no longer in the service, having to transition back to civilian life can be a very big culture shock. That is where we come into their lives. Our need for physical work is abundant and our resources are growing everyday. We become the “family” they lost. • Space Coast Kibble Kitchen

    Non-Profit Organization
    Melbourne, FL 32941

Space Coast Kibble Kitchen (SCKK), a Brevard County Florida Pet Food Bank, is a Florida 501 c 3, non-profit charity established in the Spring of 2010. Space Coast Kibble Kitchen's mission is to give donated food to needy pets whose parents are facing financial crisis, and prevent animal surrender. Every month SCKK helps feed over 1200 cats and over 800 dogs, serving more than 200 families. We start out each month with about 5000 lbs of pet food and end with just a few pounds, or none, which means we start over from scratch each month raising funds and doing food drives so we can handle the following month's demand. We're at the front lines of this issue, trying to prevent people from having to surrender their much-loved pets to local animal shelters. The Ugly truth is that the animal shelters are overwhelmed. If you walk into any animal shelter in Brevard County you would see that pets are being grouped together and that there are no empty cages. The Ugly Ugly truth is that more than half of these surrendered pets are never adopted and are unfortunately euthanized. Space Coast Kibble Kitchen "fill the bowl & fill the heart"

  • Equus Medendi

    Non-Profit Organization
    Redlands, CA 92373

The Words “Equus Medendi” are Latin for “healing horse”. Equus Medendi is an Equine Assisted Learning and Psychotherapy program primarily for Veterans. Sessions are facilitated at Buffalo Meadows Ranch in Redlands. Many of our Veterans are dealing with a variety of issues and providing a therapeutic experience at a ranch as opposed to the traditional in-office treatment has proven to be very effective. Horses are flight animals and even though they are extremely large and powerful, they are also very vulnerable. In order to survive over millennia, they have learned to live in the moment, highly alert, aware and in tune with all that surrounds them. This makes them quite relatable to many who are dealing with hyper vigilance and anxiety. The horse however can teach us how to quickly assess a potentially dangerous situation and recover both physically and emotionally, literally within seconds. As predators, gaining a horse’s acceptance and friendship requires effort such as complete honesty, consistency, respect and calm assertive energy. Horses do not care what we may have done in the past. In other words, the horse doesn’t judge or deceive. Horses accept us unconditionally, reacting only to our behavior in the present moment. What we might hide from other people can be seen and felt by a horse, without us ever having to say a word. Please note that this is not a riding program, all work is ground based.
