Our mission is to provide Veterans with things they cannot provide for themselves. Reintegrating into society has many obstacles and sometimes isn’t always easy for veterans. We are the support system that homeless & low income veterans may not have. We help them get back on their feet; whether that means finding a job, finding housing or giving them a backpack full of daily essentials to help them survive. Homeless veterans make up a large portion of society and it is only right to help serve those who have protected our country. Many of the veterans we work with, do not qualify for programs that exist as they only apply to veterans once they become homeless. At Backpacks For Life, we believe that in order to end homelessness among veterans, we need to help veterans at risk by providing preventative measures. Whether it is holistic therapy, job hunting, helping to buy Christmas gifts for their children or changing out old tires for new, we work closely with veterans to understand the challenges they face and create a game plan that suits them. Take a Vet Fishing, NFP is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that takes US Military Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) fishing as a "Day of Giving Back". On May 15th, 2016 we will be taking (up to) 150 US Military Veterans on 75 guide boats fishing on the Fox Chain of Lakes in Fox Lake, IL. We start by putting Veterans up in hotels the evening before the event. We fish from 7:00am - 11:00am, We present the flags & sing the National Anthem at 12:00 noon. We feed the Vets, their families, our guide boat captains and all volunteers from 12:30 - 1:30. At 1:30 we start our Veteran recognition party & we give away close to $10,000 worth of gifts and prizes to our Veterans. EVERYTHING IS 100% FREE TO THE VETS, THEIR FAMILIES, GUIDE BOAT CAPTAINS AND VOLUNTEERS! Registration is on a first come, first serve basis through our website at and is open to ALL branches of service, (Active duty or Veterans). TAVF has seven board members and NONE of them take a salary. This allows the MAXIMUM of each dollar donated to go directly back to our Veterans. The Peoria Iron Sights, a 501(c)(3), has been organized to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, for US Military Veterans. The Program’s mission is to organize and administer an ice hockey program that provides a recreational, therapeutic, and educational experience.

We provide free membership for veterans, active-duty military, police, firefighters and emt's. Through physical activity, peer support groups (PTSD and Caregivers) and connection with one another, we help to combat PTSD. The mission of the Veterans Alternative is to serve Veterans experiencing difficulties related to transition, combat and/or military sexual trauma and their families through a resiliency & strength-based program utilizing proven alternative therapies. The Center was founded in 2014 by Brian Anderson, retired Green Beret who was deployed in direct combat on multiple deployments and is the recipient of 3 bronze stars, one with Valor and Janel Norton, who served five years in the US Air Force and deployed as a photojournalist documenting conflicts in Bosnia, Liberia and Panama.The center activates post traumatic growth, replenishes camaraderie and trains the mind, body and spirit of America’s Warriors through a wide variety of services available to Veterans and/or their families. The services include a military-style confidence course, gym facility, martial arts, yoga and meditation classes, Accelerated Resolution Therapy as well as a pool and weekly Friday evening barbecues which provide a time for camaraderie and networking. The Frogman Swim is a 5k open water swim and fundraiser across Tampa Bay that benefits the Navy SEAL Foundation. Our goal is to build national awareness of the Naval Special Warfare community and become a key fundraiser of the Navy SEAL Foundation by building a premier annual event that challenges athletes with weather conditions similar to SEAL training. Come swim with the Navy SEALs and help us "never leave a man behind" On January 3rd, 2010 with less than 3 weeks notice, a grass roots effort brought over 30 people together at Gandy Beach in St Petersburg, FL to swim across the 55 degree waters of Tampa Bay, raising over $30,000 for a severely injured active duty Navy SEAL. The 5k point to point swim has evolved into an annual event that is now an official Navy SEAL Foundation fundraiser and has raised over $3 million dollars for the Foundation. The Navy SEAL Foundation has earned the coveted four-star rating from Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. The Foundation has also been certified by Charities of America as a “Best in America” charity. The Veterans Hockey League (VHL) is a not-for-profit organization (Federal application in process). The league depends upon valuable support from grants, private donations and corporate sponsors. Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) is a national 501(c)(3) public charity that devotes all of its energy and resources to supporting the men and women wounded in combat who were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Our founder, US Army Combat Veteran, Nicholas Dunagan has extensive first-hand experience in dealing with the challenges that are faced by our Veteran community. After serving the Veteran community for many years and seeing the overlap between challenges faced by both Veterans and First Responders, Nick felt compelled to serve both of these groups. Health4Heroes Empowers Veterans and First Responders to Take Command of Their Health, Reduce the Impact of Service, and Increase Longevity through Community, Connection, and Education. Health4Heroes exists to serve the unmet needs of our Veteran and First Responder population with diverse wellness, fitness, community, and educational programs. We currently have offerings in Larimer and Weld counties of Northern Colorado. With the support of our community, we will soon deliver access to proven, beneficial services statewide. Huts For Vets is a Free all expenses paid healing wilderness program in Aspen Colorado. Utilizing the 10th Mountain Hut Divisions our Veteran Participants will receive a world class experience in the pristine backdrop of the Rocky Mountains while learning new skills in philosophy, Psychology, mindfulness, mediation, and tension releasing exercises to name a few. We teach cutting edge Brain and Body hacks in order to better manage stress, anxiety, and many other symptoms of P.T.S.D. and to optimize health and well being and to set our Veteran participants up for success in reaching both their personal and professional Goals. WIRED Athletes (Warrior: Integration-Reconditioning-Education-Development) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that uses triathlon, cycling and adventure sports as a platform to recondition wounded athletes. WIRED Athletes has a nation-wide network of cycling and triathlon clubs, coaches and elite athletes who are on call to connect veterans with local clubs, events and activities in their hometowns. Our mission is to empower athletes and their family to develop life skills, through sport, so they may attain a life path oriented toward optimal health and wellness. Comments on the Military and Business Ownership I am the head cycling coach for the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. While working at the Hope & Care Center at Camp Pendleton noticed a disconnect with the transition of our Marines from active-duty to civilian life. At the battalion they are provided with equipment (ie bicycles) coaches, sports therapy, nutrition, adaptive reconditioning. But once out all those opportunities are gone. We continue this program once they are out of the military.

Pin Pals Junior Links: Operation Game On was established to provide a golf rehabilitation program for the returning OIF and OEF combat injured troops with severe physical and mental injuries currently going through rehab at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. The program consist of four 8 weeks of lesson five times per year at no cost to them. After eights weeks, the troops are professionally fitted by the staff at Taylor Made and provided a brand new set of golf clubs, bags, Adidas shoes, apparel, gloves, etc. It has been determined that golf has become the number one sport as an essential link to the rehabilitation process for our combat wounded troops. Golf gives them the confidence to regain an active lifestyle and provides hope for a bright future.
